Biography of Ambassador doris Johnson
Apostle Doris Johnson is the daughter of the late Reverend James C. and Evangelist Maybell Sumter. She is the second eldest of six daughters: Pastor Gloria (Bobby) Brown, Arlene Sumter, Adrian (John) Dingle, and Etta (Joseph) Powell & Megan Drayton.
She is married to Elder Blanton Johnson, Sr. and they have three sons: Blanton Dewitt Johnson, Jr. (Jamie), Jason Cleon Johnson (Dedra), and Trevor James Johnson; one daughter, Mico (Jerome) Holmes, three granddaughters and five grandsons.
Apostle Johnson began singing with The Angel Light Gospel Singers (her family’s singing group) at the age of nine. She received intense instructions from her mother telling all the children that they could not go around singing if they did not seek the Lord for themselves; and that they had to know what they were singing about. It was during this time that she truly began to seek the Lord. At the age of eleven she was baptized under the hand of Reverend William Grant of Lovely Hill Baptist Church where Robert Deas was selected as her deacon, who is today Moderator of the Old Ashley Baptist Association. He also serves as Pastor of Lovely Hill Baptist Church. At the age of twelve years old she was going from church to church reciting The Deck of Cards by Edna Gilmore-Cook.
After three years of struggling with the call of God to preach the gospel, she yielded to the call on May 20, 1990. On August 26, 1990 she preached her trial sermon under the late Bishop C. B. Wortherly, and under the Eldership of Rev. Q.B. Conyers. The topic that God gave her was, “Searching For Love In All The Wrong Places.” In the year of 1992, God birthed a burden in her soul for hurting women and it was at that time she began to host Woman Conferences, Workshops, and Seminars. Since that time she has sponsored and participated in many conferences throughout South and North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania Mountains, Haiti, and Kenya. On November 10, 1996 God Appointed Apostle Johnson to the office of Pastor through the eyes of the late Rt. Bishop George M. Lang.
Her first charge was at her home church. It was during this time that her calling was placed under the test of being tried. Apostle Johnson is the author of “Fall Down and Worship Him—Desperate People Do Desperate Things”. In Apostle’s own words she shares, “I can truly say by the mighty hand of God that I am chosen!
